The best airline for your balikbayan box is the one that accepts its size and weight on every flight at an acceptable total trip cost. A large free allowance is not enough: a box can still exceed a per-item limit, need repacking or face a restriction on a connecting flight.

For example, Emirates’ policy separates weight and piece systems and gives different dimension rules. Its limits should not be copied onto another carrier. PAL’s baggage conditions also distinguish separate tickets. Check the conditions attached to your own booking.
Measure before asking for a quote
Record the box’s packed weight, length, width and height. Include any wrapping, handles and protrusions. Photograph the measurements and keep an item list. A description such as “jumbo box” is not a usable airline specification.
Send the airline or seller this request:
I will travel on [dates and flight numbers]. I have [number] cartons, each weighing [kg] and measuring [length × width × height]. Please confirm acceptance, the allowance included in this fare, all extra charges, and whether I must collect the boxes during the connection.
Ask for a quote with an expiry date or retrieval reference. If the answer covers only the first flight, the comparison is incomplete.
Compare the cost you will actually pay
Use fare + required baggage + accepted oversize/overweight charges + airport transport + any overnight stay. Compare the same passenger count and itinerary. Add the cost of replacement packaging if you must split a box.
A hypothetical two-piece allowance with a 23 kg limit per item cannot accommodate one 40 kg box just because 40 is below 46. Splitting it into two 20 kg cartons solves only the weight question; size, contents and carton acceptance still need checking.
If a box is too large or its contents can arrive later, compare cargo against checking it in. Cargo customs procedures and airline baggage allowances are separate: paying for carriage does not establish a tax exemption.

Is there a guaranteed 64 kg OFW allowance?
No universal entitlement is established here. A benefit must match the carrier, route, fare and eligibility terms on your booking. Do not choose a ticket based on an unverified programme name.
Does paying an excess charge guarantee acceptance?
No. Maximum dimensions, individual weight, packaging and prohibited contents can prevent acceptance even when you are willing to pay. Obtain approval before bringing an unusual item to the airport.
What should I keep after check-in?
